Colossians 3:23 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” (NIV)

As I begin this article, I cannot help but think how many of us spend our lives waiting for the extraordinary. We wait for the big opportunity, the life-changing breakthrough, the ministry platform, the dream job, the perfect season, or the moment when God finally “uses” us in a way the world can see.

In that waiting, ordinary life begins to feel insignificant.

There is something beautiful about the ordinary. We wake up, pray, go to work, study, clean the house, answer emails, care for children, cook meals, encourage a friend, attend church, and go to bed. Then we rinse and repeat all over again.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing headline-worthy.
Nothing that would make people applaud.
Yet heaven sees it differently.

I’ve also realized that when we read Scripture, it is easy to focus on the miraculous moments, the parting of the sea, fire from heaven, miraculous healings, and outstanding victories. But those moments were surrounded by years of quiet faithfulness.
Before David defeated a giant, he faithfully watched sheep.
Before Moses led a nation, he spent decades tending sheep in the wilderness.
Before Jesus began His public ministry, He lived approximately thirty years in relative obscurity, growing in wisdom, serving His family, and walking in obedience to the Father.
The miracles were public; the preparation was private. I have come to realize that God is never in a hurry to skip the ordinary, as He often uses it as a classroom for forming character.

The world measures importance by visibility; God measures it by faithfulness.
A mother praying over her children before they leave for school.
A student refusing to cheat on an exam.
A businessman choosing integrity over profit.
A young woman who opens her Bible before checking social media.
A church volunteer arranging chairs before anyone arrives.
None of these moments may ever receive applause.
Yet each one is an act of worship.

Let’s take a moment to consider our greatest example, Jesus , He did not spend every moment performing miracles, He walked with people, He shared meals , He attended weddings, He rested , He travelled dusty roads , He listened, He taught small groups, He stopped for individuals everyone else overlooked and He demonstrated that the sacred is often found in the ordinary. The Christian life is not made holy only by extraordinary events; it is made holy when ordinary moments are surrendered to God.Sometimes I imagine that we will be amazed by some of the powerful Christian stories we will hear in heaven, because they happened so silently the media and blogs couldn’t cover them.

The grandmother whose prayers changed generations.
The faithful usher who welcomed people with joy for decades.
The teacher who quietly pointed children toward Christ.
The neighbour who consistently showed compassion.
The believer who chose obedience when no one was watching.
Their names may never appear in history books.
But they are written in heaven.
God’s reward is not reserved only for those with large platforms. It is promised to those who remain faithful.

Luke 16:10 – “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (NIV)

Perhaps today feels repetitive.
Perhaps no one notices your sacrifices.
Perhaps you wonder whether your faithfulness matters.
Take heart.
Seeds grow underground before they break through the soil.
Character develops in hidden places before it is revealed in public.
The ordinary days you sometimes wish away may be the very days God is using to prepare you for greater responsibility.
Do not underestimate the value of today’s obedience.
One faithful prayer. One honest conversation.
One act of kindness. One decision to obey God.
These ordinary moments, repeated over a lifetime, become a life that reflects Christ.

So, embrace the ministry of ordinary days.
Because in God’s hands, there are no ordinary days, only opportunities to glorify Him. The life that seems ordinary to you may be accomplishing eternal purposes that only heaven can fully reveal.
