BALANCING FAITH AND RESPONSIBILITIES: HONORING GOD IN WORK, SCHOOL AND LIFE (PART 2)

In Part 1, we explored how intentionality, discipline, and trust in God help us navigate responsibilities while keeping Him at the center. Now, Laura, Lizzy, Jessica, and Wapuke share their journeys of standing firm in their values, leaning on God’s strength, and reflecting His love in their daily lives.

Laura’s Perspective: Standing for Christ in Every Situation.

Faith isn’t just something I practice in church; it’s who I am. That means in my workplace, in school, and in every part of my life. People should be able to see that I stand for Christ. I remember back in high school, during my final exams, students were settling invigilators so they could cheat. It was the norm, so of course I participated. But I realize now that if I truly want to honor God, I must stand firm in my values, even when it’s inconvenient. I understood from 2 Corinthians 6:17 that even though I am in the world, I am not of the world, so I shouldn’t associate myself with these practices.

2 Corinthians 6:17 – “And so the Lord says, “You must leave them and separate yourselves from them. Have nothing to do with what is unclean, and I will accept you.” (GNT)

I once read a devotional that asked, “Is your motivation to stop sinning because you fear the consequences or because you love and revere God?” That question stuck with me. If I truly love God, my decisions should reflect that, not just when it’s easy, but always. Choosing to live for Christ isn’t always convenient, but it’s always worth it.

Lizzie’s Perspective: Delegating and Trusting God’s Strength.

Balancing everything—school, work, church and relationships—can feel like an impossible task. I won’t exaggerate; I say “God Abeg” at least five times a day! But over time, I’ve realized that I don’t have to do it all alone.

Philippians 4:13 reminds me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (NKJV)

That means instead of trying to be superhuman, I need to rely on Him. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt is the art of delegation. I used to think I had to do everything myself, but I’ve realized that asking for help doesn’t mean I’m weak; it means I’m wise. Having like-minded people around who can support me allows me to focus on the things that truly matter.

Honoring God means recognizing my limits and trusting Him to fill in the gaps.

Jessica’s Perspective: Prioritizing Time with God.

As I navigate through life, I’ve learnt that prioritizing my time with God is crucial for maintaining a strong relationship with Him. For me, it’s about starting each day with prayer, Bible reading, and worship.

Matthew” 6:33—”But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (NKJV)

This verse encourages me to make God my top priority, even when life gets chaotic. I’ve found that even small moments of connection with God can make a big difference in my day. Whether it’s listening to worship music on my commute or praying before class, I try to stay intentional about seeking God throughout the day. By prioritizing my time with God, I’m able to stay grounded in my faith and face whatever challenges come my way.

Wapuke’s Perspective: Honoring God Amidst Chaos.

There are times when life gets chaotic; it just feels like everything is happening at once—you are juggling work, trying to make the next move in your life, trying to honor God in all that you do, and so many other things. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more chaotic, you are hit with terrible news, and it feels like the world is about to end. An important aspect of honoring God is showing up for others. Whether through leadership, support, or acts of kindness, faith is often reflected in how we care for those around us in moments of need. A simple check-in, a prayer, or an act of generosity can become a source of hope for someone in need; honoring God isn’t about perfection—it’s about touching lives, even in chaos.

In conclusion, balancing faith, school, work, and life isn’t about achieving perfection but about building one’s life on God’s unshakeable foundation. This balance is achieved through prayer, discipline, and intentional choices that honor God in every moment. True balance comes from inviting God into every part of life, not just the easy or convenient ones. By putting God first, one can find strength, wisdom, and peace to handle life’s challenges.
