EMBRACING THE LIGHT

In a world filled with darkness, confusion, and uncertainty, we are often reminded of the importance of light not just physical light, but the spiritual light that comes from God’s Word. The bible continually presents the truth that God’s Word is a source of illumination, spiritual knowledge, guidance, revelation, empowerment and transformation in our lives. As believers, our challenge is not only to know this light but to also embrace it fully in our Christian journey, allowing it to shine in every area of our lives. Some of the most prominent scriptures that speaks about the word of God as our light are found in
Psalm 119:105:“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (NIV)
Proverbs 6:23: “For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.”(NIV)
These verses emphasize on how God’s word acts as a guiding force, illuminating the paths we are to walk in life. It doesn’t just offer fleeting glimpses of clarity but provides a steady, constant source of direction, ensuring that we do not stumble in the darkness of confusion and sin when we fully embrace this light. There have been moments in my life when everything around me felt dim, and confusion seemed to cloud the path ahead. In those times, I found myself longing for clarity, for a light to guide me. It was during one such season that I truly understood the profound power of God’s Word as a light. More than just a collection of sacred texts, the Word became a beacon that illuminated not only my understanding but also my steps. It showed me how God’s Word cuts through the fog of uncertainty and darkness, offering direction and peace. The scripture that resonated deeply with me was:
Proverbs 19:21: “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”(NIV)
Reading this verse, I understood that while we all have our own plans, it’s God’s purpose that ultimately prevails in our lives. This showed me that God is not merely interested in my personal plans; rather, His purpose is meant to supersede my own. This realization taught me that instead of crafting my plans and then bringing them to God for blessing, I should first consult God to discover His purpose for my life and then align my plans with that purpose. Through this understanding, I came to see that everything I pursue in life requires going back to the root of what I’m doing—to ask myself and confirm if what I am pursuing aligns with God’s purpose. I realized that in the past, I would make my own plans and ask God to bless them, sometimes without even considering if they aligned with His purpose for me. Reflecting on this scripture has taught me to examine every decision, even down to the smallest aspects of life, to discern whether they align with God’s plan and purpose for me.
To experience the light as a Christian, we must first come to the understanding of God’s Word through the help of the Holy Spirit. This understanding of God’s word is what sets us free, lifting us above sin and sorrow into the presence of God.
Hebrews 4:12-13: For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Embracing the light means being willing to let God’s Word challenge and transform us, doing away with the things that hinder our spiritual growth, like pride and unforgiveness, which harden our hearts and make it difficult to fully receive and extend God’s love. Often, distractions and constant busyness drown out His voice, while fear and doubt prevent us from trusting His plan. Neglecting prayer and time in Scripture can weaken our faith and cloud our sense of purpose. When we let go of these barriers, we create space for genuine growth and a closer relationship with God.
In conclusion, embracing the light entails accepting and growing into the truth of God’s Word and ultimately becoming a reflection of it. Through this, we no longer walk in ignorance or spiritual blindness. When we embrace the light of God’s word, the darkness cannot overcome us.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5 NIV).
This is the promise of victory for every believer who walks in the knowledge of God’s word.
John 8:12 (NIV) “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
God’s word is your light in this dark world. What word are you holding onto?

THE ONE WHO IS CALLED “I.
