THE WORD THERAPY

GET UP AND START

As women, it is the will of God for us to prosper and live in financial abundance. Right from creation, God desired for us to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth. As a result, He has given us the ability to make wealth.

Deuteronomy 8:18 – 18 “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day (NKJV)

The Bible also says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might”, and the Lord will bless it. Here at Rose of Sharon platoon, the Lord has blessed some of the ladies with insight and the ability to make wealth through businesses they are currently doing and excelling at. If you have been wondering about ‘the how to start a business’ we hope this inspires you to get up and start.

Baking

Starting a business as a student or corporate worker might seem overwhelming. Begin with the little idea you have, which must be fuelled by passion, creativity, and faith. Loving what you do is crucial because baking isn’t just a task; it’s also a business. That love for baking will become your driving force, pushing you to deliver the best to your customers, even through tough times.

When starting out, prioritize simplicity and affordability. This ensures that you can work within a limited budget. Here are the basics to start with:

Equipment:

  • Basic Baking Tools: Mixing bowls, measuring cups and spoons, a whisk, and spatulas.
  • Oven: A small, affordable oven to handle the initial orders.
  • Bakeware: A set of baking trays, cake tins, and muffin pans.
  • Packaging Materials: Paper boxes, cling wrap, foil wrap and decorative stickers for presenting the products professionally.

Ingredients:

  • Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and other basic ingredients.
  • High-quality cocoa powder, flavour extracts, and chocolate for specialty items.
  • Fresh fruits and toppings to add variety and creativity to the menu.
  • Specific ingredients for Nigerian snacks like meat pies, chicken pies, and sausage rolls such as minced meat, chicken, sausages, carrots, potatoes, onions, and spices for the fillings.

Other Resources:

  • A Smartphone: Essential for taking photos, managing social media, and communicating with customers.
  • Social Media Platforms: Free tools like Instagram and WhatsApp to promote the products and connect with potential clients.
  • It is important to remember that support from friends and family plays a role, as they are likely to be one’s first customers, the biggest cheerleaders and the ones who help spread the word.

    Nail Artistry

Beginning your nail journey, of course, has to start with learning about it, the basics specifically. To practice these basics, you can start off with buying the necessary equipment, such as:

    • Basic Nail tools: Cuticle pusher, drill, cuticle trimmer, buffer, and alcohol pads.
    • UV Gels: Gel polish, base coat, top coat, and builder gel.
    • Acrylic tools: Nail dehydrator, nail primer, soft gel tips, acrylic powder, clear powder, monomer, and an acrylic brush.

    Tips:

    1. I advise that you be very intentional in prepping nails, as it helps improve nail retention and enhances the overall appearance of the nails.
    2. Your application of UV Gels and acrylic at the start of your business might not be the best, but it will definitely get better with time, don’t be discouraged.
    3. Acrylic application can be very messy. To make it easier, I suggest you take note of the temperature, low-quality products and the acrylic powder-to-monomer ratio when applying acrylic.

Other Resources (in addition to the ones previously mentioned):

    • Offers and discounts: First time offers and discounts can help attract customers and promote your business.
    • Creative Ideas, Engaging with clients, and Aftercare Services can also help in terms of promotion.

These are just the basics, as nail artistry is vast. Remember, when practicing, prioritize quality over speed because the more you practice, the less time it’ll take for you to get it done.

Some of the hurdles faced include limited funds, time constraints and learning on the go. To anyone thinking of starting a business while studying or working: TAKE THE LEAP. Start where you are, use what you have, and trust that God will provide the rest. The journey might not be easy, but it will surely be worth it.
