Summer Makeup Guide

When it comes to summer, it screams hot and moist which automatically translates to no makeup, because it can get hot and uncomfortable real fast. Especially in the heat with a full face of makeup, sweating can cause it to drip and look cakey, or worse break off.

But this summer does not have to be that you can still look fab and serve in the heat with these five (5) products – concealer, blush, bronzer, powder, and setting spray. The aim is to enhance your natural features while withstanding the heat.

First, a clean moisturized base is needed. There is no need for extreme skincare here because it must be kept to a minimum. A clean moisturized base that consists of a gentle cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen is perfect for the heat.

Second, skin tint/tinted moisturizer – Here, the lighter the better. A skin tint/tinted moisturizer is lightweight enough for coverage and a natural finish. If it is considered, it should be close to your tone. This step can be skipped because it is not necessary, but it can be used if a bit of coverage is needed.

Third, concealer – this is placed mainly under the eyes to hide dark circles if any, then on other areas to hide blemishes. This must be an exact shade for your skin or sometimes one shade lighter, depending on your choice.

Fourth, blush – this is placed on the cheeks, to add a bit of color and sun-kissed glow to your face. Go for a warm orangey tone to give a warmth effect.

Fifth, bronzer – this can be either powder or cream, but it adds some dimension and depth to the face. It can be applied on the cheeks underneath the blush, a bit on the forehead, and across the nose to create a sunlit effect.

Sixth, powder – this is setting powder that must be an exact shade to your skin, to give a smooth and seamless blend after blending all the products.

Finally, setting spray – this is to set the whole face in and keep the routine altogether after. It is advisable to go for sprays with oil control and long-wearing for summer days. Mascara and lip gloss can also be used here for your lashes and lips to enhance them, a little swoop top and bottom, and you are all good to go.

The main aim is to enhance your natural features, so feel free to either go with less or more because it all depends on feeling and looking like your best self this summer.

This was nice to read, but for someone with an oily skin, would you still recommend a tinted moisturiser and which ones do you recommend

      1. Tosin Daramola says:

yes, I would because there are products formulated for oily skin that can provide a lightweight finish, control the excess oil, and still give coverage. You would have to look for the oil-free and non-comedogenic ones though. I can recommend some high-end brands like Nars (pure radiant tinted moisturizer with spf 30), fenty (fenty beauty eaze drop blurring skin tint), and IT cosmetics CC + cream oil-free matte with spf 40; also Danessamyricks yummy skin tint. If you try any, please let me know <3
